Why on-device, instead of the cloud? لماذا على الجهاز بدلاً من السحابة؟

Cloud means your voice leaves your phone, hits foreign servers, and is often used to train models you don't own. Cloud apps also don't work without internet — unacceptable for lawyers, bankers, and journalists in the region.

السحابة تعني أنّ صوتك يغادر هاتفك، يمرّ عبر خوادم أجنبية، ويُستخدم غالباً لتدريب نماذج لا تخصّك. والتطبيقات السحابية لا تعمل بدون إنترنت — وهذا غير مقبول للمحامي والمصرفي والصحفي في المنطقة.

How big is the app? ما حجم التطبيق؟

Initial download is around 150 MB. On first launch over Wi-Fi the app downloads the transcription model — about 1.2 GB. After that, everything works offline forever.
